Buying a house for my mum

I always said that if I ended up being rich, I'd buy a house for my mum. She's always rented and been at the mercy of the whims of landlords and real estate agents who ask her to leave at any time. I've made some smart investments over the last 10 years, and I am ready to be able to buy her a nice modest house so that she can live in her own home. This blog is all about the search for a house for my mum and has a lot of tips on buying real estate for family members.

The 3 Activities That Are Likely To Cause You Delays On Moving Day

by Joseph Jennings

You may plan for it weeks or months in advance, but once it gets there, moving day can be quite daunting. There is so much to do and yet not enough time, at least for the most part it will feel that way. This is why many people moving out will often experience delays to their schedule and this can affect when they get to move into their new home, as well as their removal charges. Below, see the most common duties that are likely to cause you delays on that day.

 Packing stuff into boxes

Packing easily takes the most time of all the other removal processes. You have to prep the boxes, add packaging material, arrange the items that are being packed, e.g. clothes or cookware, pack them inside the box, seal the box, mark it, place it in a designated area, and then keep repeating that until everything is all wrapped up. It can take hours depending on how large your house is. To avoid this, start packing as early as seven days before. You can start by packing some of the clothes, books, bedding and cookware that you don't need. Then keep working your way as the moving day nears. Or simply pay to have your furniture packed by the removalist.

Emptying the fridge

You may not realise it, but your fridge packs a ton of stuff, especially if it's one of those double-door units or if you own more than one unit. As you well know, your fridge has to be moved while empty just to make it easier to carry and to avoid food spoilage. Instead of waiting till moving day to empty it out, start cutting back on the contents of your fridge a month early. Don't buy anything that you will not have exhausted by moving day. As you get closer to the big day (one week), start cutting back on perishables such as fruits. By the day before moving, your fridge should be virtually empty.

Prepping the kids

As always, prepping the kids can seem like a never-ending task. On moving day time may get by so quickly that you forget to create enough time for that. One solution is to take care of them first thing in the morning so that they are already set by the time the removalist gets there. Another solution is to prep them the night before. Alternatively, you can seek an extra sitter to help you with the kids on moving day as you will be busy packing or moving about.

By avoiding delays on moving day, you will prevent your removal charges from piling up (if being charged on an hourly basis). You will also carve out enough time to travel and get to your new home in time. Contact a company like Atkins Removals & Storage Pty Ltd for more help as you prepare to move.
